About

Flutist Morgann Elyce Davis is a frequent performer in orchestral, solo, and chamber settings, a teacher, a writer, and an advocate for musician's mental and physical wellness.

Morgann’s primary focus is aiding music students of all ages in their pursuit and enjoyment of music by helping each to develop their unique voice, talents, and well-being. She is currently Professor of Flute at the Tell School of Music at Millersville University and at Franklin & Marshall College. She also teaches in Lancaster, PA in her private studio, Davis Flute Studio. Morgann specializes in helping musicians address their physical and mental practices and well-being as part of their musicianship.

Morgann was a 2024 Finalist in the Instrumental Professional Division of The American Prize national non-profit competitions in the performing arts. Beyond teaching, freelance performances in solo, chamber, and orchestral settings serve as an outlet to share an infectious love of music. Morgann can be heard on stage with ensembles including the Endless Mountain Music Festival, Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, Harrisburg Symphony, Reading Symphony, Berks Sinfonietta, Allegro Orchestra Lancaster, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and Kennett Symphony. Before to moving to Pennsylvania, Morgann performed in orchestras in the Midwest including the Dubuque Symphony and Madison Symphony.

An interest in mental and physical wellness led Morgann to explore connections between physical and mindfulness practices and performance skills for musicians. She is a 200hr registered yoga teacher and a certified meditation instructor. Morgann uses her training in anatomy, yoga, and mindfulness to help musicians develop a greater understanding of how to express and care for themselves in a demanding and competitive field. She was recently certified in the Roll Model Method, a modality of soft-tissue conditioning and self-myofascial release. In addition to teaching weekly yoga classes, Morgann has taught tailored workshops for flutists at a variety of colleges, summer programs, conventions, and intensives.

A strong advocate for the value of music and the arts, Morgann was previously on the Career and Artistic Development Committee of the National Flute Association, where she was the first coordinator of the newly developed entrepreneurship-focused C.R.E.A.T.E. Project Competition. Morgann currently serves on the board of the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia where she heads the Health and Wellness Advisory Committee. She was the first program director of Nextgen Youth Music, which provides five youth music ensembles to students in Lancaster County, and served on the board of Allegro Orchestra Lancaster working to engage non-traditional audiences.

Morgann enjoys using her interests to draw a connection to music in new ways, which led her to create the Story Soundtracks program with the Duke Street branch of the Lancaster Public Library. She also writes regularly on her blog, The B-List, about wellness for musicians, teaching and pedagogy, and life as a musician, exploring these topics from the inside out.

Originally from a small town in central Pennsylvania, Morgann spent four defining years at The Ohio State University earning a Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance (Magna cum Laude) with Katherine Borst Jones. Following her time in Buckeye country, Morgann received a Master of Music degree (Summa cum Laude) as a student of Stephanie Jutt at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Compelled by the incredible music of Jean Ferrandis and the desire to travel, she pursued post-graduate study on scholarship as a member of his studio in Courchevel, Paris, and Southern France.

Morgann enjoys the constant growth finding her place in a fast paced music field demands, providing the best possible education she can for her students, and creating a greater awareness of the benefit of mind-body connection for musicians. In addition to her blog and newsletter titled “The B-List”, she teaches Creative Resilience to musicians of all types. Morgann co-hosts the Life Between the Notes podcast with oboist Kirstin Myers where they interview and record the stories of Southeastern Pennsylvania musicians. When she's not working, she can be found deep in a book, doing a creative home project, practicing yoga and mindfulness, and enjoying life with her husband and two cats.
