Creative Resilience: The ability to make constructive change in oneself and one’s creative work in the face of both positive and adverse conditions through self-realization, awareness, and the use of customized tools.
Why Creative Resilience?
Build the toolbox you need
Each of us is unique as a musician, even though our education is often formalized in structure. The challenges that we face in expression, the physical demands of making music, and the difficulties of structuring our work and minds vary widely. Creative Resilience helps us reach our full artistic potential by identifying the specifics of our personal experience and building a toolbox by making sure you begin at the most effective entry point for your unique needs.
Modalities matter
One of the barriers to developing any specialized skill is the enormity of the task. The reasons we enlist teachers to break down the approach to our instruments is the same reason we enlist guides to address physical and mental weaknesses. Creative Resilience saves you time by helping to break down and identify individually appropriate inroads to meditation, mindfulness, routine development, yoga, myofascial release, and anatomy, streamlining exploration and searching out solutions much sooner than we could on our own.
Time Frame
Creative Resilience is designed with your busy schedule in mind. The work takes place over one 30 minute free exploration meeting and three 60 minute sessions. Sessions are spread out by two to three weeks, allowing for time to explore and experiment with new routines, exercises, and disciplines. In the time between sessions, we’ll stay in touch via email and Google Doc to adjust exercises and explore their effectiveness. It typically takes just under two months to complete one round of Creative Resilience work.
In our sessions we will…
1. Identify
Our first objective is to hone in on your personal limitations or needs. Whether you are struggling with focus, physical pain, or lack of routine, step one is to identify your blocks.
2. Dive In and Curate
Starting with the intro call, I’ll provide exercises and strategies to implement and experiment with in your daily life. This may mean written instructions, video examples, or both. With your detailed feedback on what you’re experiencing, we’ll spend the next three sessions creating tools that work for your specific needs.
3. Summarize
Our sessions will end with a comprehensive document that ties together the themes of our work, all the exercises you’ve been provided, and any useful outside resources to explore on your own.

How do we approach Creative Resilience?
Yoga
My own yoga practice was impactful in feeling confident and free both on stage and off. It led me to complete the 200hr yoga teacher certification through Create Karma and become a registered teacher so that I can share what I’ve learned effectively with others.
Meditation
Understanding your thoughts, habits, and patterns is invaluable for a musician. Meditation has taught me so much about myself and the experiences of practice and performance. I completed a 60hr meditation certification to deepen my own practice and develop the ability to share this discipline and its benefits with others.
Myofascial Release
Self- myofascial release creates a relationship between us and our anatomy. It allows us to soothe sore muscles, open areas of physical resistance, and create resonance and freedom of movement. The Roll Model Method Certification meant I could share this toolbox safely with others.
Routine Development
As musicians we understand the improtance of good habits from learning to practice, but we’re not taught how to be flexible with our personal rhythms and routines. Developing a sense of self-inquiry and observation can help us pinpoint our most productive and useful routines.
